Fire ants to go marching interstate..if action isn’t taken

Rural News

Governments are being asked to re-work a national plan aimed at stamping out red imported fire ants, after a report determined the current strategy won’t work.

The document suggests the pests will spread beyond southeast Queensland if efforts aren’t made to improve the strategy which could affect the horticulture sector.

Rural editor Sophie Clarke caught up with CANEGROWERS environment and sustainability senior manager Mick Quirk to hear more about the problem.
