Gamblers in lockdown turn to betting on reality TV & Russian table tennis

Dr Sally Gainsbury, Associate Professor and co-director of the gambling treatment & research clinic at the University of Sydney, joins Michael as experts say the closure of casinos and cancellation of sporting matches will not prevent problem gambling.

 

Dr Gainsbury says novelty stakes could also gain popularity in the absence of anything else.

 

“There are other events that can be bet on — anything from reality TV to the weather to political betting, or other key decisions in society, so there will be options for betting,” Dr Gainsbury said.

 

“People are going to be looking for something to fill that void, now if that is betting then they may switch to something different.
