‘Have an audit’: Tom Elliott fires up over the citizenship drama

TOM ELLIOTT

Tom Elliott says there is air of panic in Canberra as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has lashed out at calls for a citizenship audit of MPs.

In a fiery press conference this afternoon, Mr Turnbull says there’s no place in Australia for “witch hunts”.

“That is not part of the rule of law, it is not consistent with our values,” he said.

But 3AW Drive host Tom Elliott says he has spoken to federal politicians, and there is a whiff of panic in the nation’s capital.

“The Greens are calling for an audit of all federal politicians – they are spot on,” he said.

“Have an audit.

“The reason Mr Turnbull, we do need a witch hunt is because you politicians are not telling us the truth.

“Stephen Parry admitted he told some of his colleagues he might have British citizenship, none of them said anything, they kept it a secret.

“That is the reason we need an audit.”

Labor has now offered to make the citizenship details of all of its MPs public.

In a statement, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten says “universal disclosure” is needed, to bring an end to the citizenship crisis plaguing federal parliament.
