There are concerns gaps in access to healthcare between regional and metropolitan areas are worsening.

New figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare suggest rural Australians are being hospitalised for preventable ailments.

The report shows one in 18 hospitalisations were classified as potentially preventable in 2021-22.

Rural Editor Emily Minney spoke with National Rural Health Alliance Chief Executive Susi Tegan about the figures.
