Ita Buttrose talks table manners with Tom Elliott

TOM ELLIOTT

Ita Buttrose has stressed the importance of teaching your kids proper table manners.

It follows Tom Elliott’s observation that most people don’t know the correct way to use cutlery anymore.

At the risk of sounding like a “stick in the mud”, Tom said our collective manners are going downhill.

Ms Buttrose told Tom it’s important because people – including potential bosses – can judge someone based on their etiquette.

“I think table manners reveal a lot about a person,” Ms Buttrose said.

“I think many a person might lose a job or a promotion because they don’t know how to use their knife and fork correctly.”

Ms Buttrose also said there are definitely no phones at her table.
