Labor backbencher says the citizenship saga is eroding faith in politicians

A backbencher warns the citizenship scandal is damaging the parliament’s reputation.

As the saga continues to drag on, the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader will hold a meeting in Melbourne to figure out how to put it to bed for good.

And Labor MP Peter Khalil told Neil Mitchell a resolution must come soon.

“People are sick and tired of these shenanigans,” Mr Khalil said.

“They want good governance.

“Bill Shorten wants to… clear this once and for all, and people have confidence again in the parliament and their representatives.”

Mr Khalil said Labor candidates go through rigorous background checks before they run for parliament.
