Labor MP “priced out” of Brunswick
A Labor MP says he’s been priced out of Brunswick, despite a healthy $200,000 salary.
Peter Khalil, the member for Wills, had been renting in Brunswick, but had to leave when he was served a “notice to vacate”.
Not wanting to move with two small children, Mr Khalil made a private offer to buy the place, only to find the price well out of his range.
Mr Khalil told Neil Mitchell he doesn’t know how people on smaller salaries could consider living in the area.
“The price is just way out of our range, even with the advantages I have. So what hope for young couples and first home buyers?” Mr Khalil said.
“The great Australian dream is out of reach for millions of Australians.”
