Monash Council cancels local footy club’s fundraising poker night
Monash Council has blocked a local footy club from fundraising with a poker night.
The Waverley Hawks junior football club had planned the night for parents of the club, but it clashed with the council’s policy around promotion of gambling.
Councillor Geoff Lake told Ross and John it didn’t want that kind of activity on council facilities.
“It’s quite inappropriate for a junior club,” Cr Lake said.
But Burnso disagreed with the decision.
“You’re not forcing children to play poker, it’s the parents and adults,” he said.
