NAPLAN results “a mixed bag”

Ross and Russel

Confused about whether this year’s NAPLAN results are good or bad? You’re not alone.

Preliminary data from this year’s National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests has been released today. The data shows no improvement on last year, but longer-term trends are more positive.

Ross and John spoke to Simon Birmingham, Minister for Education and Training, about the results this morning.

He said this year’s NAPLAN results are “a bit of a mixed bag”.

“We can see that there are some positive trends, particularly in relation to reading and numeracy skills, especially in the early years, but there are some negative trends in relation to writing skills in particular”, he said.
