Protecting pigs from Japanese Encephalitis

Researchers are using a hybrid version of a harmless-to-humans mosquito virus to try and stamp out Japanese Encephalitis in pigs.

The insect-borne disease can cause production problems on pig farms, and can lead to serious neurological symptoms in humans.

Rural editor Sophie Clarke caught up with the University of Queensland’s Doctor Jody Hobson-Peters to hear more about the shot, and when it will be available for commercial use.
