Rumour File: Player cops life ban for headbutting umpire

The Rumour File

An under 19 suburban league footy player has been slapped with a life ban for headbutting an umpire.

The Glenroy player was handed the sentence at the Essendon and District Tribunal on Tuesday night.

This morning ‘Clear message’ reminded the Rumour File of a previous call where she reported an umpire being struck in the Kyabram & District Football League.

That incident went to the tribunal last night and the player pleaded guilty.

He subsequently copped 15 year ban.

President of the Goulburn Valley Umpires Association, Darren Meek confirmed the rumour to 3AW Breakfast.

“There was a report the player had struck the umpire in the face and knocking the umpire over during a game,” Darren said.

“Touching an umpire or striking an umpire is totally unacceptable.”
