Suburban footballer survives after suffering heart attack on the field
On-field rivals have come together to save a man’s life.
Oakleigh footballer Andrew Crothers, aged in his 40s, suffered a heart attack during the first quarter of a match against Whitefriars on Saturday.
Andrew collapsed on the field, with trainers from both clubs performing CPR until MICA paramedics arrived.
Club president Barry Alexander told Neil Mitchell Andrew’s heart stopped four times.
“Clinically, he was dead,” Barry said.
Andrew is currently recovering in hospital but will undergo major surgery shortly.
