The orange-bellied parrot is being saved from extinction
The orange-bellied parrot is making a comeback.
Pearcedale’s Moonlit Sanctuary has been working hard to save the critically endangered bird, with 25 new specimens being bred this season.
The sanctuary has been rewarded with a Sustainability Award for its efforts.
Director Michael Johnson told Ross and John the parrot is similar to a panda in its reluctance to breed.
“There’s probably only about 20 in the wild at the moment,” Mr Johnson said.
