‘This is what racing is all about’: Tony Jones says Udyta Clark’s reaction to Rich Charm’s win was ‘priceless’

Tony Jones

Tony Jones says the real story from Derby Day at Flemington on Saturday has nothing to do with celebrities or any of the glitz and glamour, but the priceless reaction of a 70-year-old trainer from Cranbourne.

Filling in on 3AW Mornings today, Tony Jones questioned if the racing had been taken over the by the “glamour side” of Cup week.

“I love the stories associated with racing, whether it be trainers, jockeys, or the horses themselves,” he said.

“What does annoy me though is the cavalcade of D-list celebrities who think they are the be all and end all of Cup week.

“Do we really care about who is wearing the biggest hat?”

Tony Jones said the highlight from Saturday was the Group 2 race at Flemington and the reaction of trainer Udyta Clark when Rich Charm won.

“This is what racing is all about,” he said.

“No million dollar operation – that win on Saturday was absolutely priceless, that’s what racing should be about.”
