Torch like product to change the way fruit is picked

Fruit growers will soon no longer have to pick a piece of fruit to see if the crop is ready to be harvested, thanks to a device known as a Fluorescent Spectrometer.

It is about the same size as a torch, and uses light emissions to measure sugar content, firmness, and the maturity of a piece of fruit.

Victorian tech company Rubens Technologies has developed the device and expects it to be available next year.
