Using headphones right now? You should hear this warning

Kate and Justin

Australians have been warned about the lasting damage that can be done to your hearing after the release of new stats that show one in 10 people have their headphones playing too loud.

“It’s very damaging … because the damage is permanent,” Simon David, audiologist manager for Bupa.

“It’s one of those things that creeps up on you.”

So how loud is too loud?

“It’s about what we call the “dose”, and the dose is the volume over a time,” Mr David told Justin and Kate.

Experts say 90 minutes per day at roughly 80 per cent of maximum volume is plenty per day.
