Police appeal for witnesses over alleged assault on Melbourne Cup day
Police have made a public plea to witnesses after a woman was allegedly assaulted in the CBD on Melbourne Cup day.
A woman, 28, was walking along Princes Bridge in company with a man when she was physically assaulted by him about 9pm.
She was allegedly punched to the facial area and sustained serious injuries.
The woman has then walked towards the Flinders Street Station where she was found by police and taken to hospital.
Police have interviewed a 27-year-old man for recklessly causing injury.
He was released pending summons.
