Police were rammed and confronted by a machete-wielding alleged thief at Kilsyth in Melbourne’s outer-east last night.

Officers were initially called to Regina Street about 10pm after complaints of a fight.

On arrival, their patrol car was rammed before the driver approached them armed with a machete.

Capsicum spray was deployed as officers, subduing the man and allowing police to take him into custody.

The officers were not injured.

A man, 55, has been charged with 13 offences including conduct endangering life, assaulting police and motor vehicle theft.

He will face the Ringwood Magistrates Court today.
