Police dog too quick for Springvale hoons

A police dog has tracked down three hoons who crashed their car after fleeing from police in Springvale.

The men, aged 21, 22 and 30, came to police attention after they were seen driving a Ford station wagon erratically on Springvale Road at 9.30pm.

The driver refused to pull over.

Police did not give chase but a short time later the car smashed into a power pole after going through a red light at the intersection of Heatherton Road.

The impact of the smash caused the power pole to snap in half, which affected power in the area.

The occupants ran off but a police dog tracked them down at a nearby bowls club car park.

All three were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the smash.
