Police hoping to reunite stolen goods with owners

Tom Elliott

Police are hoping to return valuable stolen property back to their rightful owners following a spate of burglaries among Melbourne’s affluent eastern suburbs.

A 53 year old Doncaster man has been charged in relation to a number of alleged burglaries in Glen Waverley, Balwyn, Toorak and Kew that took place over the last ten years.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nathan Kaeser told Tony Jones that Victoria Police will hold an open day in an attempt to return the items to their owners.

‘We’ve recovered a large amount, in excess of 2,000 items stolen,’ he told Tony Jones. ‘This weekend we’ll be looking for the owners to come forward.’

Goods recovered include jewellery, clothing and bags. Gucci and Prada bags among the collection can retail for up to $40,000 a piece.

Items not claimed will go to public auction.

The open day will take place at Oakleigh Police Station, 1 Atherton Street Oakleigh, from 10am to 1pm.
