FIRST ON 3AW MORNINGS

Police are searching for a man armed with a gun who held up an Armaguard vehicle leaving shoppers terrified this morning.

A man wearing a blue puffer jacket and black motorcycle helmet pointed a gun at the armed security guards, stealing cash outside a gaming venue at Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre at 8.30am.

The guards from the Armaguard vehicle were heard shouting at him to drop the weapon.

Shoppers were terrified of a shootout.

Detective Acting Inspector Mark Ward told Tom Elliott they believed it was a planned heist.

“We don’t see many of these types of armed robberies,” he said.

“We would say this is a planned armed robbery.”

The man escaped with a quantity of cash on a motorbike that didn’t have plates.

Police are also keen to speak with a Triple Zero caller who claimed to have seen the offender in the Noble Park area.

Witness David used to work in the industry and told Neil Mitchell about the incident earlier this morning.

“There was heavy police activity and an Armaguard vehicle sitting there, I suspect it’s an armed robbery.”

Anyone who sights the bike or has information is urged not to approach the man but to instead call Triple Zero (000).
