Police investigate death of a man at Werribee following lengthy siege

Police are investigating the death of a man at a home in Werribee on Sunday night, following a lengthy stand-off.

Police attended the home at Kookaburra Avenue in Werribee around 10.30 Sunday morning. 

They wanted to question a 35-year-old man about an aggravated burglary from the day before, in which a man allegedly entered a home at Hoppers Crossing carrying a firearm.

The man refused to let police in to question him, the area was evacuated and cordoned off. 

Around 7.30pm on Sunday, after hours of police negotiation, the officers became concerned they could no longer hear the man.

On entering the home, they found him deceased. 

The coroner has attended the scene and the Professional Standards Command has been notified.
