Police investigate kidnap link to overnight chase drama

Police are investigating whether the passenger in a vehicle involved in a police chase in Melbourne’s north-west had been kidnapped.

The vehicle was first spotted in Kealba about midnight and the driver refused to pull over for police.

He then rammed two police vans on Mickleham Road in Tullamarine.

Police finally managed to intercept the vehicle on the Western Highway at Ravenhall about 2.30am.

The driver, 36, fled on foot before being arrested by police.

He remains in custody.

Police are now trying to verify claims the passenger, a 21-year-old woman, had been kidnapped.

She had suffered minor injuries.

She is known to the man.

No police officers were injured in the ramming.
