Police issue warning to potential protesters ahead of Melbourne Cup Carnival
Police say they’ve learned a lot from last year and are well prepared if protesters again try to disrupt this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.
A woman dangerously parked a car on train tracks last year, chaining herself to the steering wheel on the line bound for Flemington.
Others scaled a crane, unfurling banners in support of refugees.
Police vowed at the time they’d never let it happen again.
They’ll swing into action starting with Derby Day on Saturday.
Officers have undergone training in scenario-based exercises, will be well equipped and have deployed additional resources.
Police also plan to go undercover at the track to monitor crowd behaviour.
