Police issues warning to drivers ahead of the Melbourne Cup long weekend
Police are vowing to test as many as 120,000 drivers over the next five days to coincide with the Melbourne Cup long weekend, with Operation Furlong starting tomorrow.

The warning comes as the number of lives lost on Victorian roads has reached 237 already this year, edging closer to last year’s total of 241 lives lost.
It’s also the highest number since 2016, where 240 fatalities by this time of year.
Last year during the five-day operation, police detected 224 drink driving offences from 66,000 tests.
