Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has told Neil Mitchell police have looked into threats made against him.

The threats were allegedly made by skateboarders upset about council’s bid to stop them skating on a Bali Bombing memorial in Carlton.

Council has decided to re-engineer the memorial at Lincoln Square so it cannot be skated on due to residents’ concerns about behaviour.

‘We had residents complain to us about the behaviour of skaters there, almost as if they own the place,’ Cr Doyle said on Thursday.

Over the weekend, about $10,000 worth of damage was caused, including smearing faeces on a nearby worksite.

Cr Doyle says he was also threatened on social media.
