Police minister clarifies comments about media ‘beating up’ crime

Lisa Neville has sought to clarify comments she made about the media and crime in Melbourne.

The Police Minister told Tom Elliott she never said the media was “beating up” the issue.

“That’s just simply not true,” Ms Neville said.

“I actually don’t believe that and I wouldn’t suggest that.”

Ms Neville said “it was a fact” that media coverage had an impact on public perception.

“But that’s not why we’re in this position,” she said.
