Victorian parents Scott and Sarah, who have four children of their own, have taken in three more children from a broken home who would have otherwise been forced into foster care.

A Detective Sergeant at Hume CIU, Scott and his wife Sarah have taken on the role of primary carers of their niece, a seven-year-old girl, and two nephews, aged 5 and 4, who can no longer live with their parents in far North Queensland.

“Sadly there’s violence in the home and substance abuse issues, the parents are not in a position to care for them,” Scott told Tony Jones.

“We just want to give them a safe and lovely environment, especially at Christmas time.

“The only real alternative is that they go into foster care.

“The first thing they said was coming from interstate, they were worried Santa wouldn’t be able to find them.

“It just breaks your heart to think that they think they’re going to be forgotten at Christmas time.”
