Police search for three teens who allegedly committed ‘concerning’ act against a little penguin
Police and the Conservation Regulator are looking for three teenagers who allegedly kicked a tiny penguin into the path of an oncoming tram in St Kilda late last year.
Forest and Wildlife Officer at the Conservation Regulator, Andrew Johnstone, says it’s thought the teens grabbed the penguin from the colony, but the fate of the bird is unclear.
“The witness described the situation, they picked up the penguin … went back down the beach … and placed it back in the water after having been kicked a number of times,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

He also says the alleged actions of the teens are “concerning”.
“That somebody allegedly would have that intent in their mind to go and take that action out,” he said.
The incident took place at the St Kilda Esplanade tram stop around 11:30pm on December 8.
Police are urging for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
