Police are searching for two people responsible for covering Wangaratta in swastikas and anti-gay profanities on buildings and vehicles.

At least 17 cars and 20 properties have been targeted with spray paint and drawings.

It is not known if it was to coincide with Adolf Hitler’s birthday.

Mayor of Wangaratta Dean Rees told Neil Mitchell the pair need to be arrested.

“Name and shame them, and put them through an educational program,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“They probably don’t understand what these Swastikas mean, what these anti-Semitic things that they do, they’ve got no idea – they just think it’s a bit of fun”.
