Police union boss blasts group of ‘thugs’ following sentencing of 2019 police bashing
Secretary of the Police Association, Wayne Gatt, has branded a group of four tradies who bashed two police officers in 2019 as “animals, thugs and bottom feeding bogans” following the sentencing at the County Court today.
Two police officers were rag dolled in St Kilda in 2019, with two of the four tradies involved sentenced to jail time, with the other two subjected to community correction orders.
The Police Secretary spoke passionately to Neil Mitchell earlier on the incident.
“This is what cops do everyday, they get called to help the most vulnerable people in our community, and on this occasion, they become the most vulnerable people in our community,” Gatt said.
“I sat in the courtroom today for 60 minutes. For 10 minutes, I heard about the impact on two police officers and for 50 minutes, I heard about the impact on a group of animals, thugs and bottom feeding bogans if I can be that honest.”
