A crime spree across Melbourne overnight has ended with five youths arrested, three of which were allegedly on bail at the time.

Acting Deputy Police Commander for Operation Trinity, Andrew McKee, says one of the youths has been charged as well.

“Our aim where this offending occurs, is to quickly and swiftly bring them into custody, and then we can deal with the matters that have been undertaken by these people,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Jacqui Felgate.

He also revealed youth crime is occurring often enough to justify how often Operation Trinity takes place.

“We take it very seriously, we’ll run these operations for the period we think they’re effective,” he said.
