A man remains on the run – possibly still in handcuffs – after fleeing police in Melbourne’s east on Tuesday night.

The man was first arrested and placed in handcuffs at Maroondah Hospital around 9pm, but he managed to flee.

Police called in the canine unit and the air wing to conduct a full scale search of the area.

One witness told 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File he was playing tennis when police asked him if he’d seen the escapee.

“He inquired whether any of us had seen a gentleman wearing handcuffs,” he said.

Unfortunately, the escapee hadn’t dropped by the East Ringwood tennis club.

He remains on the run.
