Police union boss explains why taser funding will make Victoria safer

Police union boss Wayne Gatt says the government’s decision to fund tasers for all frontline officers and PSOs will make Victoria a safer place, for both police and those in the community.

He said it would give police options they previously didn’t have.

“We don’t want to put our officers in a situation where the only thing they can do is either get hurt themselves, or use lethal force,” the secretary of the Police Association said on 3AW Drive.

“If we can give them an alternate option, everybody benefits in that scenario.”
