A policewoman on her way to work has become the first motorcyclist to die on Victorian Roads in 2017.

The woman in her 40’s was stopped at a red traffic light on Boronia Road in Wantirna around 9am when it’s believed a truck slammed into the back of her bike.

Assistant Commissioner Rick Nugent tells 3AW Drive it was a difficult scene for police to attend.

‘A truck has come down the hill behind her, and for whatever reason hasn’t stopped.’

Nugent tells 3AW’s Nick McCallum that she was riding her own personal bike and she wasn’t in uniform at the time.

‘When you’re dealing with one of your own, that’s dealing a bit close to home.’

‘Like every other tragedy on our roads, it goes further than just immediate family.’

The truck driver is assisting police.
