Politicians are receiving criticism for sending out Christmas cards despite the cost behind it as their constituents suffer through a cost of living.

Expert in political marketing at the Australian National University, Dr Andrew Hughes, says it’s just another form of advertising, but could also help in securing elections.

“MP’s on average get around $350,000 to spend on their electorate expenses so things like printing out these cards, printers, internet … they get put into these broad categories as part of doing their jobs as members of parliament,” he told Shane McInnes.
