Port Adelaide’s Nathan Krakouer suffers broken jaw after being punched outside Perth nightclub
Port Adelaide defender Nathan Krakouer has had his jaw broken outside a Perth nightclub.
The Power released a statement on Tuesday confirming Krakouer had undergone surgery while on a club-sanctioned break.
The club said Krakouer, 27, was struck in the head and police were investigating the attack.
But they said it was ‘unacceptable’ for Krakouer to be out drinking at the time.
‘Nathan is still recovering from a hamstring strain and his choice to drink alcohol while rehabilitating that injury is far from the professional standards we expect at the Port Adelaide Football Club,’ the club said.
As a result, Krakouer will not be considered for senior selection until after Round 6.
‘There is no excuse for me to have been drinking, particularly when I’m still recovering from injury,’ Krakouer said.
‘I’m sorry for betraying the trust of everyone associated with the football club and will do whatever I can to contribute to achieving our goals for this season and beyond.’
