Post-COVID bender: The ‘tricky’ challenge police face in Victoria

Victoria’s top cop says police are facing a “tricky environment” in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, with Victorians “partying very hard”.

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton says Victorians “seem to be really going for it”.

“We’re seeing some extreme driving behaviours … people who are drinking heavy, we’re seeing a lot of drug use,” Mr Patton told Neil Mitchell.

“They’re … partying very hard and with that comes a lack of social control, with that comes more, if you like, extreme behaviour in public places.”
