It’s been revealed power companies played a key role in a major drug bust in Melbourne’s north-west last month.

Almost 600 cannabis plants along with five firearms and cash were seized as police raided 19 properties across St Albans, Sunshine, Deer Park, Kealba and Melton last month.

Six people have been charged, four of them baby boomers aged in their 50s and 60s.

Police have praised the assistance of power companies in identifying the crop houses due to the high power usage.

They say given the fire risks, it’s lucky police came knocking before fire crews.
