Powerful union boss set for leadership challenge
FIRST WITH NEIL MITCHELL
The powerful head of the United Firefighters Union, Peter Marshall, is set to be challenged for the position of leader.
Neil Mitchell said this morning Marshall’s opponent is a largely unknown firefighter.
“Peter Marshall, who pulls the Premier’s strings, the most contentious union leader in Victoria, is under challenge,” Neil said.
“I don’t know how serious it is, a man named Lyndon Clarke is standing against Peter Marshall for the job of union secretary.
“I don’t know Lyndon Clarke, but he’s a brave man.”
Clarke is believed to be a Leading Firefighter with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, with more than 30 years experience, currently stationed at Sunshine.
An election date is yet to be set.
Mr Marshall contacted the program off-air to thank Neil for “publicizing the election”.
Mr Clarke has been contacted by 3AW Mornings for comment.
