It’s been revealed on 3AW Mornings a large-scale taxi rally could ‘block cities’ around Australia as the increasingly bitter war rages between drivers.

One of the organisers behind a blockade on the steps of Parliament in Melbourne earlier this month told Neil Mitchell there were rumblings of simultaneous protests against UberX.

Victorian Taxi Hire Car Family Association’s David Singh said it could happen at any time.

‘There are rumblings now, already the states are getting together and looking to put a rally nationally,’ he said.

‘I would say it would block cities around the nation.’

Tempers flared earlier this month when hundreds of drivers staged a blockade demanding the Andrews government regulate UberX.

The protest brought parts of the CBD to a standstill for several hours.

It comes as the ACT Government moves to legalise UberX in Canberra, with a number of controls.

NEIL MITCHELL: Cracks are starting to appear…this could be a massive change.

Victorian Taxi Association CEO David Samuel said they needed to play by the rules.

‘Ultimately what the premier is saying is this service is here to stay we all recognise that and it must sit within some regulatory framework.’
