Premier Daniel Andrews is steadfast in his defence of the Grand Final eve public holiday despite criticism from business groups.

While Melbourne’s CBD is eerily quiet today, Mr Andrews said holiday spots and tourist destinations were abuzz.

He said the public holiday is not just about Melbourne.

‘I think there are a lot of families right across Victoria really set to enjoy a great day with their kids,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘It’s hard to put a price on family time.’

Neil Mitchell pushed the Premier on whether the holiday would be reviewed but Mr Andrews was adamant it would be well-received.

‘I’m not sure what will happen in terms of review,’ he said.

‘Let’s wait and see how things unfold over the weekend.

‘I am very confident today will be a great success.’
