Daniel Andrews and Matthew Guy trade barbs over West Gate Tunnel on 3AW Drive

Daniel Andrews has rejected suggestions the government hasn’t done its homework on the West Gate Tunnel, but the opposition has labelled it the worst deal its seen.

The Premier joined 3AW Drive on Tuesday, telling Nick McCallum that costs of the project had increased largely due to the extension of the tunnel.

He brushed off claims the taxpayer was being ripped off.

“We’ve had probably the most transparent, the most thorough process that a project like this has ever been through,” Daniel Andrews said.

“Transurban came to us with a specific project, it has been tested, measured, it’s been scrutinised like no project like it before.”

But opposition leader Matthew Guy returned serve later in the program.

“I’ve never seen a deal so bad for the taxpayer. It’s like they didn’t even bargain with Transurban,” he said.
