Leading Australian retailers, business associations and advocates are launching a ‘surcharge free’ movement urging businesses to scrap payment surcharges once and for all. 

The movement would encourage consumers to attend venues that don’t charge extra for using credit cards, for example. 

Consumer advocate Christopher Zinn told Ross and John Australia is one of the most over-surcharged countries in the world.

He said the surcharge for credit card transactions is usually ‘a very generous interpretation’ of what banks actually charge.

‘It’s just another business overhead. It’s ridiculous,’ he said.
