Pressure on Steve Smith

The Australian cricket team has a lot of pressure coming its way right now.

There’s debate surrounding selection, a lack of scoring power with the bat, an out-of-form captain and even talk of a rift between the playing group.

It’s fair to say Darren Lehmann and Steve Smith will be looking for all of the answers ahead of the second Test, starting Saturday in Hobart.

One question which is beginning to be asked is whether Steve Smith is the right man to be captain, which former Test batsman Chris Rogers says is an interesting discussion point.

‘I’m not sure if he’s had enough leadership in his time or if it comes naturally to him,’ Rogers told Sports Today.

‘But you only get better as a captain I think. At the start it’s bloody hard work and he’s fighting it.’

Rogers says we must be patient with Smith, however he understands that patience wears thin when the team is losing.
