A woman has jumped from a second storey balcony to escape a horror house fire in Melbourne’s south-east.

Fire took hold of the two-storey home on Forster Court in Bentleigh East at around 11pm last night.

“Pretty scary, pitch black, there’s flames, there’s lots of smoke and then you actually have to do that,” Today Show reporter Iza Staskowski said on 3AW Breakfast.

Thirty firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, with a total of five people evacuated.

“This property is just gutted, you can see right through it, it’s really, really sad,” Ms Staskowski said.

It’s believed a woman, her two teen daughters and a boyfriend of one of the girls were inside the double-storey home when a fire broke out on the ground floor, and quickly spread upstairs.

A mother and her daughter are currently being treated in hospital, with both in a stable condition.
