Prisoner injured during transit between courts

A prisoner van was forced to stop on a busy Melbourne road after a man in custody on board was found injured and unresponsive.
The van pulled over on Hoddle Street in Abbotsford about 10.20am after a transit officer noticed a police prisoner was unresponsive with a seatbelt around his neck.
There were two police prisoners in the van being transferred from Heidelberg Magistrates Court to Melbourne Magistrates Court, Corrections Victoria said.
It is understood the staff members saw the unresponsive man on in-vehicle CCTV.
A 3AW caller told Neil Mitchell he drove past the scene and saw a man ‘laying flat out on the road’ being treated by paramedics.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and is in a stable condition.
