Private Healthcare Australia ‘blindsided’ by over-65s private health insurance rebate cuts

About 1.2 million pensioners will be affected by the federal Labor government’s decision to scrap the private health insurance rebate for over-65s in the May budget.

Private Healthcare Australia chief executive Rachel David told 3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott public hospitals would be left to pick up the bill.

“We estimate in the first year, public hospitals will have to find an additional $260 million to be able to cope with the overflow of patients that will occur as a result of people dropping their cover,” she said.
