RUMOUR CONFIRMED

A racquet belonging to legendary Australian tennis player Evonne Goolagong Cawley is on its way back home to Australia after being bought from the Kenny Rogers estate.

The racquet, which Goolagong Cawley used to win her first Grand Slam singles title at the French in Paris and also Wimbledon in 1971, was purchased for $1920 last month.

Paul Foley, who purchased the racquet, says he was “just looking through some auctions” when he spotted it.

A happy coincidence meant Mr Foley has been able to get in touch with Goolagong Cawley.

“I’ll see if she wants to have a look at it again … and maybe donate it to a museum or something somewhere because I don’t feel it deserves to be in my house!”

Press PLAY below to hear how the racquet was found + what Mr Foley intends to do with it
