Victoria’s infrastructure agency has recommended charging households for their rubbish by weight.

 

Deakin University’s Dr Trevor Thornton told Ross and John it would be a way to help reduce waste levels.

‘We’d encourage people to sort their waste more efficiently,’ Dr Thornton said.

He said it would promote recycling and composting.

But two shrewd 3AW listeners instantly found major flaws in the proposal.

Firstly, blocks of units do not have separate bins, and secondly, the rubbish in your bin is not always yours.
